A brief history of Saturn Distribution Services Ltd.

The company was established in 1996, trading as Mercury Express, a franchise for the Leeds area under the umbrella of Mercury Express UK Ltd.

 The local Franchise went from strength to strength, providing a high quality delivery service throughout the UK, and within just 2 years had became one of only five “flagship” businesses within the group of 70 Franchisees.

In 1999, the Franchisor was bought out by McDonald-Douglas of America,but they were unable to inject promised finance into the Company and unfortunately Mercury Express UK Ltd went into receivership in early 2000.

To avoid any possible legal problems with copyright, the Leeds area franchise was obliged to change its name, and became Saturn Distribution Services. Both Simon Barrand, an experienced Transport Manager, and Graham Wollerton, an outstanding Sales Manager joined the Company.

Saturn Distribution Services then took over the Wakefield and Huddersfield Franchise areas to broaden its customer base, and became a Limited Company in 2003, trading as Saturn Distribution Services Ltd.

The business has continued to grow at a phenomenal rate and the turnover is now approaching £2m per year. The customer base has been achieved mainly through referrals and recommendations, and this is a record we are very proud of. 

We have seen it grow from “One man & a van” working from home, into a truly global Company with storage facilities, providing complete transport solutions for many of the areas prestigious Companies. Not only does Saturn deliver in the UK, and to European destinations with dedicated vehicles, but also provides a reliable Next Day Parcel Service to destinations world wide. We have established contacts with many other Transport Companies in the UK, and our exclusive network is now firmly recognized as one of the most cost effective in the business.

The immediate future plans of the business in 2007-8, is to consolidate the established customer base, use more Local Contractors with their expertise, build on our comprehensive Direct European Delivery Service with satellite depots, and continue the growth of our vehicle fleet.
